A Prayer To Let Others Be Responsible For Themselves

Precious Father,
Precious Lord Jesus,
Wonderful Holy Spirit,
Lord, I am a born helper.
When others look like they are getting into trouble, I want to stop everything in their life, in my life, and take over.
I often want to help others by making decisions for others.
However, in your love and grace, I know I need to help others by letting them learn to be responsible for themselves.
This is not easy for me to do.
Instead of me trying to help by taking over a person's life, push me back and make me silent, according to your will.
Show me when I try to help by taking over a person's life, I am really demeaning the other person.
Show me when I try to help by taking over a person's life, I am making the other person less of a person than you want him or her to be.
Help me help others by encouraging them to make their own decisions.
Help me help others by encouraging them to stand on their own, even at the risk of their making mistakes and falling down.
Help me help others by encouraging them to be independent of me rather than dependent.
Help me help others by inspiring me to let others come to you freely and fully within their own free will.
Help me help others by inspiring me to preserve each person's dignity and personhood.
In the name of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit who lives within me and touches me,
Amen
