A Daily Devotional Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. (NIV) About fruitful self-denial Fruitful self-denial does not lead to a lack of vision, inspiration, or hope unless we deny ourselves only for selfish reasons and we do not pick up our burdens and follow Jesus. To deny ourselves for selfish reasons prevents us from experiencing the wonder of Gods special touch and inspiration in our life. To deny ourselves, to pick up our cross and follow Christ, we must open ourselves so we can be filled with the same kind of Holy Spirit inner power Christ had. When we fully live in fruitful self-denial, we joyfully deny ourselves those things leading us into darkness, sin, and depravity. |
