A Daily Devotional About how we see ourselves… Romans 3:20 Therefore no
one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather,
through the law we become conscious of sin. (NIV) We look in
the mirror to see ourselves. We look at others to see our reflection in their
eyes. We look at the society around us to see if we fit in. We look at the
social customs and morality around us to see if we are different from others. We
check out our place in our social settings to see if our values are like or
unlike others around us. We want approval from others. We want platitudes and
compliments from others. As the world around us slides down into the abyss of
sin, do we also want to slide down with the world? Or, as the world crumbles
around us, do we not want to be looking up to God? We must see ourselves as we
really are. We must see how we are doomed sinners with no hope, or we are
redeemed sinners with the certainty of Heaven waiting. When we look at Christ on
the cross, we can see our wounded Savior who was wounded by our sin. On the
cross, He was still loving us and still caring for us as He suffered and died
for us. When we look at Christ on the cross, we can see our reflection in His
eyes as He pleaded to God to forgive us. We did not know what we were doing when
we crucified Him. When we look at ourselves, we can look in the mirror to see a
sinner doomed with no hope for tomorrow. Or, when we look at ourselves in the
mirror, we can look in the mirror to see a sinner redeemed who lives to glorify
God. |
