A Daily Devotional About the substance of prayer (1) Matthew 6: 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. (NIV) Millions of words have been written about prayer. You are reading a few more. We write many words about how, when, and where to pray because prayer is so important. Prayer is the foundation of our spiritual life. Prayer is more than just talking to God. For God and for you, God does not care so much about the words you use, how the words are structured, which words come first or last, or the vocabulary level of the words you use. What God treasures most is your willingness to be with Him. He treasures the fact you make the effort each day to be with Him. Jesus tells us in verse 6 your prayer should be a private matter between you and God. Prayer is more than talking because prayer is the activity of bonding and binding your soul and spirit to our unseen loving God. When you pray to God you are always rewarded and the rewards keep flowing to you for all eternity. |
