About the fellowship of His suffering…

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death. It is enough for the student to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebub, how much more the members of his household! He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them. Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
