About
a friend in Jesus:
John 15:15 I no longer call you
servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have
called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made
known to you. (NIV)
We say we are servants. We use the word 'servant in our talk about our 'service in Christ's name. However, we are wrong about being a servant. A servant follows orders without knowing why or asking why. A servant will blindly do whatever is asked. A servant can be much like a robot. Programmed appropriately, a robot could be a prefect servant. We call Jesus the Master, but Jesus wants us to see things differently, even if we want and sometimes need to cling to our idea of Christ being the Master and we being the servant. Jesus wants us to know He is our friend and we are His friend. As friends do, Christ told us what God told Him. In friendship, everything God wanted us to know, Jesus passed on to us. Everything is a lot. Everything from God reaches out into the infinite. Because Christ considers us more than servants and considers us friends, Christ has elevated us past slavery, past being a servant, past being a mindless robot, and on up the ladder to be friends with Him. In all our pain, problems, and sufferings of life, Jesus wants us to know He is on our level as our friend.
