About being a mirror reflecting love to others..

John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (NIV)

One of the ways we know we exist in the world is through the reflections others give us. Others can give us untruthful or distorted reflections when they make fun of us or deride us. Others can also give us truthful reflections about ourselves but these reflections may not be what we want to see or hear. When we love others, as we are commanded to do by Christ, we can show others we love them by reflecting the best parts of their personhood. We can reflect others personhood by listening to them and signifying we hear them when we respond to them in love and compassion. The best listeners are people who remain quiet and who essentially repeat what another person says. We must always be careful to reflect only what we hear, not what we want to hear. Most importantly, one of the best ways to show love for others is to reflect their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
