A Daily Devotional

About being a soldier of the cross

Isaiah 55:4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples.

We are solders of the cross. How we carry our burdens, how we suffer, how we handle adversity, and how we deal with our pain tells other people about Christ. If we whine, complain, and whimper in our times of trouble, we make it appear we have no power over the darkness. Regardless of our lot in life, we must take Christian leadership positions with others, especially when we battle the darkness on a personal level. Jesus was a leader and He suffered. Jesus expects the same conduct from you. If you lead the charge for Christ, you are the first one to see the enemy. In the spiritual war in which we all choose sides, you might also be the first one to be injured or worse. In this spiritual war, you are not alone in your suffering, but you must still take charge of your life and take charge to lead for Christ. When you suffer, you are never alone because God is always with you. God expects you to show others they are also not alone when they suffer. Although we might think suffering has no purpose, we are wrong because when we suffer and "hang tough" by holding on to our faith in Christ, battles are being won for Christ. Even when we lose earthly battles because our health fails or other conditions go against us, when we remain a faithful witness, we become a victor for Christ and we help Him win in the lives of others.
