A Christmas Daily Devotional

About a world turning away:

The Story Of Our Lord's Birth

As much love and warmth as we find in remembering Christ's birth at Christmas, there lingers yet the following truth: As a world, we have not listened to Christ or followed Him. Amidst the joy of Christmas rests the tough reality of crime, violence, poverty, and war. We do not live in a perfect world. So imperfect is our world, and so imperfect are we, God the Father sent His only Son into the world to try and save us. The beauty of Christmas and the Christmas season is counterbalanced by the sheer ugliness and darkness of our world. Yes, we continue to make technological progress in some places in the world. However, in much of the world, those of us who are Christians see an ever-declining interest in anything Christian. Celebrating Christ's birth is right and proper. However, we must never content ourselves with thinking observations of Christmas are somehow "enough" in terms of worshipping our Lord. Christmas is only one day out of 365. What we do the other three hundred and sixty-four days says more about how we honor and revere our Lord Jesus than any of the gift-giving and other celebratory activities of Christmas day. Take time to honor Him and bask in the glory of His birth. Then take the love you feel at His manger and keep His love real each day of the year for you and for others.
