About Christ's gift of power over death:

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. (NIV)

As much power as we might think we have in the world, we have no power over death. All the greatest and most powerful people on earth have died. The most famous, the smartest, the richest, the people who all thought they were invincible, all have died. When we face the ultimate truth of ultimate truths we must all admit we have no real power in the world against our eventual end. However, in humility, born in the stench of animals, Christ Jesus our Lord brought to us the greatest gift ever given to any person'the gift of the power to conquer death. Christ did not wrap His gift in bright paper or special gift wrap. Christ brought His gift to us by suffering the most horrible of deaths on the cross for each of us. All of us have the power of life over death because Christ has given us a chance at eternal life. We cannot change the weather but we can live forever in paradise. We may not be able to change the course of history but we can survive our own death. We cannot just survive our own death we can leave our frail earthly body behind. Then we move on to live forever in a perfect body in a perfect place. What a gift Christ has given all of us!
