A Christmas Devotional
About giving to ChristMatthew 2:10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (NIV)
Our tradition of giving gifts at Christmas begins with the Magi giving Christ these most valuable of treasures. Ironically, no matter how valuable a gift the Magi gave to Christ, there is no gift as valuable as the gift Christ has given us. Everlasting life, for just one person, is more precious than all the treasures of the earth. At Christmas, we give to one another. We should commit to giving to each other all the time. However, unless we receive the Christ child into our life, our giving to others is only a hollow gesture. When we have received Christ into our heart then our life overflows and beams with the brightness of His love.
The gift of our repentant heart placed in the hands of our Savior is the greatest gift we could ever give Him. Nothing pleases Him more. Nothing causes Him to pour out his mercy and joyful blessings upon us more than giving our heart and life to Him.
