A Christmas Devotional

About holding the baby Jesus and what God needs from you:

Luke 2:6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

God does not grab a person and control their will. God lets all of us fumble along on our own. Perhaps one of the reasons God does and does not do what He does and does not do is because God wants us to hold His Son. At the manger scene, most of us would want to pick up the baby Jesus and hold Him. Although Jesus grew up to be a man, was crucified, died, and rose again on the third day, the very love and essence of Christ is just as real today as it was on the day of Christ's birth. One of the greatest spiritual moments in any person's life is when they turn away from the world and turn to Christ. When we turn to Christ, we can embrace Him just as if we were standing next to His manger and we held Him in our arms. In the trials and difficulties of our life, we often want God to hold us. However, in God's power, and because He wants the best for you and the best from you, God needs you to reach out to Him. God needs you to hold Christ in your heart every day just like you would have held Christ on the day of Christ's birth. God needs you to reach out to Him and reach out to others just like you would reach out to pick up the baby Jesus.
