A Christmas Devotional
About our first Christmas communion:
Luke
2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into
Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of
the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife,
being great with child. (KJV)
1
John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we
have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our
fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. (NIV)
Nearly every Christian has a time when they take their first communion. There was, two thousand years ago, when Christ was born, the first communion took place between human beings and God, as a real, live person. Each of us can live our daily life in spiritual communion with Christ. On the first Christmas, God gave us a momentous gift. God gave us the gift of being able to talk with Him and commune with Him at any time, day or night, anywhere in the universe. The birth of Jesus is an eternal reminder God loves us and God wants us to love Him back. As we stand in the love of God, as we turn away from our worldly and sinful thoughts and ways, we have an opportunity to be one with Him. In participating in communion with Christ, we have an opportunity to become a part of God and have Him alive within us as He becomes a part of us. As we love God, as we love others, as our spirit soars in thanksgiving and praise for Christ's birth, the power of His presence in our time of communion with Him is unmistakable.
