About feeling compelled to help others
John 9:41 Jesus said, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains. (NIV)
Christians are to be helping people. In helping others we can feel compelled to help others because we are strong in Christ. We can feel compelled to help others because we see Christ's helping hand reaching down to others and we feel His power in us to reach out to help. However, there is a big difference between helping others in Christ's power as opposed to feeling we are compelled or forced to help others because of our own sense of weakness. If we feel we are compelled or forced to help others because of our own weakness, the help we offer may not really help or empower others. Feeling compelled to help others because we are weak commonly fosters weakness in others because we cannot give others our strength or the strength of Christ. When we feel compelled or forced to help others, these feelings can lead to our being enslaved to the darkness. Our reaching out to help others should be done because Christ's voice is in us, not because we have an inner voice of our own trying to get us to do for others in selfishness.
