A Daily Devotional

About finding hope in nothing:

Hebrews 6:17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. (NIV)

The power of darkness in the world, the same power of darkness causing pain, depression, sickness, illness, and certain death, wants you to fully believe there is no hope in life. The power of darkness wants you to totally give up, give in, cave in, and collapse because you see nothing ahead of you. As long as you put yourself first in all things, there is for you a dark nothingness just ahead. You can all take chances and end up with nothing. You can make investments and end up with nothing. You can be foolish and put your time into sheer follies ending up with nothing. You can go in directions not of God's will and end up with nothing. You can make mistakes of the heart about which you grieve because you end up with nothing. However, in what seems to be the nothing of these losses and mistakes, there is something. In the meaningless times of life there is meaning and purpose if you are willing to look. In the empty times of life, there is fullness. In the hopeless times of life there is hope. In the dark times of life there is Light. When faced with the nothingness of life we must remember we are spiritual or supernatural beings with a natural body living in a natural visible world. As we seek God's wisdom, grace, and love, God will reveal to us the supernatural substance of life all around us, especially if we keep our spiritual eyes open when we end up with nothing. The closer we are to God, the closer we come to fully seeing, perhaps for the first time, His nature, His substance, His essence, and His powerall of which are visible in what we might say is nothing to our physical eye.
