A Daily Devotional
About our fleeting life and finding life's beauty.
Psalms 39:4 "LORD, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, let me know how fleeting life is." (RSV)
What a wonderful opportunity we all have every day to breathe and live. However, for many of us, we miss out on so much of life. We miss the beauty of all that is around us until..
We miss the beauty until we see an end to our life. For many persons, true peace, tranquility, and joy comes only when the end of the journey is truly in sight. The Psalmist is not praying for an end to life, but for a vision of it. For to see how short our life is truly gives us a renewed vision of how precious each moment becomes. When we are able to count each moment as precious, we are then beginning to live. Yet, some people will not be content when they see the end of their days because they have not prepared for the end of their days on earth. They will have put off confronting the fact they have fallen short of what God wanted from them. These people are afraid to look over the horizon because they know instinctively hell waits beyond this life. However, hell awaits no one who admits their shortcomings before God and who accepts Christ into their heart and life. For this person, life is not so fleeting. For the Christian, at the end of this earthly life is a new life full of joy, peace, wonder, and love.
