About love and giving�

1 Corinthians 13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (NIV)

All of us are born with a selfish heart. We are born with a heart leaning toward sin. Having a human heart leaning toward sin means when we give what we have or we give who we are we expect to gain something back. Tragically for us, when we give in a selfish way without love, we gain nothing. When we give in a selfish way, we foster emptiness instead of erasing emptiness with love. To gain in life requires we lose ourselves in giving love. To have life in its fullest requires we have love in our heart rather our possessing hate or emptiness. To possess the world and all the world's contents but to have no love means we possess nothing. To be charitable to the poor is most admirable. However, to be charitable toward the poor with no love in your heart gains nothing for you.
