A Daily Devotional

About love and sins:

1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (NIV)

Love is blind. Love is blind to faults, to mistakes, and to transgressions. Sometimes love being blind is a hindrance in relationships. At other times, love being blind is a glorious advantage in relationships. A glorious advantage to the blindness of love is when love takes on the quality of forgiveness. Gloriously, love has a characteristic of giving us a way of seeing only the good in people and not the bad. When we love others in the way Christ wants us to love, the sins of others are covered over by His love and we cannot see the sins. When there is no love in us we see the speck in our brother's or sister's eye. Worse yet, when there is no love in us, we aggressively look for the speck in our brother's or sister's eye. When there is love we don't see the speck because the speck is covered over. When we love as Christ has called us to love, we are to love each other in a deep and moving way. We are not to be shallow in our love but deep. When we love others in a deep way, love covers over their sins, love smothers their sins out, and love makes their sins as if their sins never were. When Christ looks at your heart after you have turned away from your sins and turned to Him, Christ sees you and He sees your heart as if your sins never were.
