A Daily Devotional
About loving yourself as a child of God:
Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (NIV)
Many people hate themselves. They hate who they are, hate what they are like, or hate where or how they are in their life. Instead of hate, we must love. Most importantly, love for oneself must not be a selfish love full of ego and vanity. Selfish love full of ego and vanity is not true self love. We are all to love ourselves as children of God. We are to love ourselves because Christ first loved us. We are to love ourselves because God created us in His own likeness and because He wants us to be like Him. When we do not love ourselves as a child of God we put needless barriers between our heart and the heart of God. When we love who we are, we are beginning to reflect God's love for us because God's love in us enables us to love ourselves. When we fully love ourselves, we are then able to more fully love others.
