About God's mercy and forgiveness:

Matthew 26:59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. (NIV)

The love of Christ can never be fully known or fully understood by us while we are alive on the earth. The chief priests and the Sanhedrin were looking for lies they could put against Jesus so they could crucify Him. Yet on the Cross, in His dieing hour, Christ proclaimed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." In His last moments, we find Christ asking God to forgive these men (and us) who crucified Him. Christ asks us to come to Him and be His child. Christ asks us to give up our life for Him and surrender all we are to Him. When we see how much Christ loves us, how can we not love Him back enough to give our life to Him?
