About our purpose in Christ:
Revelation 3:11 I am coming
soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 Him who
overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he
leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my
God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I
will also write on him my new name. 13 He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches. (NIV)
If Jesus had left us a date
for His return, what would we have done? Would we have shut down the world?
Would we have sinned up until the very last minute in the hope we could get a
last minute reprieve? We have been watching for the signs of Christ's return for
two thousand years. God's will may be for us to wait another two thousand
years or perhaps wait only two minutes. Indeed, we do not know the hour or day
of His reappearing. We do know at this minute, and in this hour..He is with us.
In truth, we do not need a date on our calendar to know Christ will come back
for us. What we need most of all is an open heart ready to receive His love,
grace, care, compassion, and mercy in the here and now. What we need most of all
is a heart ready to forgive and love others. What we need most of all is a heart
surrendering our all to Him. Yes, we do see events in our world appearing to
foretell His coming again. Yes, we do want to see Him. However, when He comes
again and we are alive, what do we want to be doing when He comes back? Do we
not want to be stooping down to help the downtrodden? Do we not want to be
encouraging the discouraged? Do we not want to be a friend to the friendless?
