A Daily Devotional
About power to love oneself
Ezekiel 18:30 "Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. (NIV)
No other aspect of our religious life and faith can be more confusing than the issue of self-love and acceptance of who we are. We are to turn away from the sin in us but love the divine spark or divine spirit in us. We are to love the very spark of divinity within us Christ died to save. We are to turn away from our weaknesses but love our strength given to us by God. We are to turn away from the darkness within us but love His light He gives to illumine our soul. We are to love our image reflected in His eyes because Christ loves us so much He was willing to suffer and die for us. True self-love comes through repentance, surrender, salvation, commitment, and service. We are to love within us, our inner person who God sent Christ to save. We are to accept ourselves including our faults, our mistakes, our times of trial, and our times of triumph. We are to love ourselves in total honesty about who we are and who we can become. We are to love who we can become in Christ. To find self-love we must be honest and tell ourselves the truth. The truth we must tell is we are good and bad, divine and sinful. To find self-love we are to love the good part of us and shun the sinful part of us. When we are full of self-hatred, sin begins to grow more powerful in us. When we are full of self-hatred, our capacity to glorify God disappears because of the self-hatred. When we are full of humble self-love, the power of sin begins to diminish in us. When we are full of humble self-love, our power to glorify God is increased.
