A Daily Devotional

About the prayer and forgiveness connection to God:

Mark 11:25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." (NIV)

Jesus connects our prayer life and His willingness to forgive us. Jesus connects our willingness to forgive others with His willingness to forgive us. There is incredible logic in God's wisdom. God would be incredibly illogical if He forgave someone who did not forgive others. God would be incredibly illogical if He forgave the sins of someone who kept a record of the sins of others. God would be incredibly illogical if He forgave someone who seethed in anger, hatred, and resentment over the sins of others. Fortunately for us, God is not illogical. God is logical. God knows and God wants you to know how beneficial being forgiving is to you. God wants you to know your relationship with Him, your ability to talk to Him, and your ability to commune with Him is dependent upon what you are willing to do and to be in your heart with others. To be with God, erase the wrongs others have committed against you. Before you ever try to talk with God in prayer, erase all the wrongs others have committed against you through forgiveness. When you have a clean slate with others, you can then talk to God. If you need a better prayer life, clean the slate you have with others. When you have erased all the wrongs and the subsequent hurt put upon you by others, God will give to you what you gave to others..the gift of forgiveness. God will forgive you as you are forgiving. This lesson about forgiveness is a hard lesson for us to learn. This lesson about forgiveness puts us on the spot. This lesson about forgiveness makes us responsible. In our relationships, Jesus always puts us at the front of the line by making us be the leader in solving the problems or our relationships. Jesus holds us responsible for solving the problem of our connecting to Him in prayer by telling us to forgive before we pray.
