About pushing ourselves: Psalm 62:1 My soul finds
rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him (NIV) Have you ever pushed yourself?
Have you ever pushed yourself to the brink of exhaustion or collapse? Millions
of people push themselves to the brink of collapse or beyond. Many people push
themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally in unhealthy ways. A healthy
way to push oneself is to push against sin. We can push against the darkness
always trying to invade our life. To overcome the influences of darkness and
temptation in our life, we can push against these influences always trying to
push against us. Too often, we conceive of our abilities to deal with darkness,
sin, and adversity as if our abilities are weak or non-existent. However, we
achieve the pinnacle of spirituality when we exert or even exhaust ourselves by
pushing against the darkness. We push against the darkness by letting the light
of God glow within us. When the darkness pushes against us, we are to push back
with prayer, love, humor, and with the light of God in service to others.
