About seeing evil
Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. (NIV)
We must not be blind.
We must be persons of vision. We must not lie to ourselves. We must be honest
and see evil's intent. When we are honest we can see evil's aims for us. We then
have an opportunity to combat evil with love and with the light of Christ. We
must be able to see evil because evil wants to live in the dark shadows of our
life, to
tempt us, and to attack us from our blind side. We must see evil because we can
win out against evil. We can destroy evil before evil destroys usif we see
evil first. In our tradition of turning the other cheek, we must see what is
about to strike us. To be smitten without knowing what strikes us means we live
in ignorance. Consequently, when we live in ignorance we cannot forgive because
we have no basis upon which to forgive. We must be honest about evil for evil is
the great adversary seeking our destruction. When we see evil, we can then turn
to God and reach out to Him. In the shadow of evil, we must reach out to God
because He will give us power to overcome the evil we see.
