Topic: A Poem -- Every Christmas Morning

Every Christmas morning,
Since I was a little boy,
We'd gather 'round the Christmas tree,
So we could all enjoy.
The opening of the presents,
And the joyous looking eyes,
As each would open packages,
That held a great surprise.
My grandpa lived with us,
And every Christmas he would say,
"Before we start our treasure hunt,
Let's bow our heads and pray."
He wanted us, not to forget,
Why we are gathered here,
The reason for the season,
Here at Christmas Day each year.
We'd bow our heads and we would pray,
While grandpa always led,
And on this Christmas, I can hear,
His words still in my head.
He'd pray, "Lord, thank you for this day,
And all our family too.
But, Lord please let us not forget,
This day was made for you.
"Lord, we thank you for this life,
That you have given us.
The good times and the happiness,
And even when it's tough.
"Dear Lord, I make this Christmas wish,
To you and you alone.
My wish is when this life is finished,
You come and take us home."

For years while I was growing up,
That was our Christmas prayer.
The first thing Christmas morning,
With my family gathered there.
We loved Christmas morning,
Like so many families do,
But grandpa always made sure,
That we knew the reason too.
So this year as we gather round,
My grandpa's not with us.
So I will carry on his prayer,
Before we make a fuss.

"Dear Lord, I bow my head and pray,
This day was made for you.
My grandpa always said these words,
And we know they are true.
"And, Lord, my grandpa's not with us,
But, Lord, we know he's fine.
You took my grandpa home with you,
Because it was his time.
"And, Lord, this year, one thing we know,
And it is simply this,
We thank you, Lord, because we know,
You granted him' his wish."
